Gay dating sim games

As visual novels remain a popular escape for those who enjoy interactive stories, gay dating sim gaming developers are increasingly bringing diversity to their works. One such example is 2064: Read Only Memories, a cyberpunk puzzler that lets the player romance queer characters. Tusks, meanwhile, is the gay orc dating sim many of us have been waiting for. Its creator brings an authenticity to the fantasy setting that’s refreshing.

2064: Read Only Memories

While representation in gaming is growing with games like The Last of Us 2 exploring Ellie’s relationships and Final Fantasy 16 introducing queer romances, there are still more tucked away gems to discover. One of those is 2064: Read Only Memories, the vibrant cyberpunk adventure that takes place in Neo-San Francisco.

In this pixel art gay dating sim game, players take on the role of journalist Alyssa Rivers, whose life is disrupted by Hayden Webber’s disappearance and ROMs (Relationship and Organizational Managers) that have invaded the world. Throughout the story, Alyssa meets up with a colorful cast of characters as she tracks down her friend, and solves puzzles along the way.

Developed by MidBoss, 2064: Read Only Memories was originally released on PC in 2015. A console port titled 2064: Read Only Memories DX and a mobile version titled 2064: Read Only Memories Type M were planned as well. The sequel 2064: Read Only Memories NEURODIVER was announced in 2016, and it took place in the same world as the original with a new story, new characters and puzzles.

Explore the halls of the Minerva agency and dive deep into people’s memories as you track down your missing friend in this rich, mature narrative layered with gameplay challenges. Immerse yourself in the game’s retro FM synth soundtrack and listen to the vocal talent of Austin Creed (aka WWE star Xavier Woods), Todd Bridges, Erin Yvette, Sarah Anne Williams and more!

Tusks

While gay dating games are slowly starting to make inroads into major gaming titles (with The Last of Us 2 exploring Ellie’s relationships more) we still need a lot more LGBTQ inclusive content from developers. That’s where indie gay games come in, and this is a genre that has some of the best LGBTQ dating sims.

While some of these dating gay sim games set themselves apart with a cute gimmick (like Hatoful Boyfriend, in which you date pigeons) others use their writing and art to tell more complex stories. Tusks is one such game. While it’s not yet out, this pay-what-you-want visual novel about dating orcs seems to have all the hallmarks of an excellent game: it’s self-aware and deeply humanistic, and its witty script makes even groan-worthy dad puns sparkle.

It’s also fully accessible for blind and visually impaired players, with Ren’Py’s built-in auto-voicing and support for screen readers (press V to toggle). While it’s a bit more relaxed than the other two, it’s an interesting take on dating sims that focuses less on romance and more on community. It’s a solid, if slightly flawed, entry into the world of LGBTQ dating sim games. Lovingly Evil

Even bad guys need love, and that’s what Lizard Hazard Games is trying to convey with Lovingly Evil. It’s a quirky visual novel dating sim that finds you at the one-and-only Villain Conference, where you’ll chat with a host of villainous characters and find out what makes them tick. Whether you’re talking to a 2,000 year old vampire who still hasn’t moved on from their ex or Satan himself who just wants to be able to relax and serve people at his grill, each character is well-written and brought to life with a variety of complex personalities and backstories.

With a non-linear structure and plenty of ways to spend your time, it’s up to you how to spend the four days that you attend the conference. You can take classes in disguise, perfect your maniacal laugh or focus on hitting on love interests at your leisure. It’s not uncommon to be drawn to more than one of the villians you meet, though, so it’s definitely possible that you’ll have to work on your flirting skills if you want to get into a relationship with someone at the convention.

Despite its wacky premise, Lovingly Evil is an incredibly charming gay date sex game with plenty of replay value. With a humorous writing style and unique characters, it’s a great way to pass some time if you’re looking for something a bit lighter than your typical gay dating sim.

Dream Daddy

When Dream Daddy was released in 2017, it turned the dating simulator genre on its head. It gave players exclusively men loving men content and relationships and did so in a way that was both playful and poignant. Its success shattered the assumption that gaming’s portrayal of LGBTQ characters is only ever going to be one-dimensional or limited by the mainstream industry.

Despite its groan-worthy dad puns, Dream Daddy is a heartfelt gay dating sim game with relatable dialogue and wholesome characters. It also offers players a chance to explore their own sexuality and celebrate their identities in a safe and positive way. Moreover, the game’s witty script makes even its most cliched dad jokes shine.

While it is great to see that more dating gay sex games are coming out with LGBT characters, we’ve still got a long way to go for authentic representation. While there have been some minor steps forward with the Last of Us 2 exploring Ellie’s relationships more and Final Fantasy 16 introducing queer romance options for the first time, it is important to remember that many players still need a better range of dating sim games to choose from featuring queer protagonists.

For that reason, we need more gay games made by LGBTQ creators who can bring new perspectives and experiences to the medium. Let’s continue to support queer developers who are bringing their own unique perspectives to the table, like Dream Daddy, and make sure that gay date fuck games featuring LGBTQ characters can have as much variety and depth as any other video game on the market.
