However, without any scenes from within the game that confirm this, Kanji is not considered as queer. This is the same issue that arose with Bayonetta, who while being a fuck icon was never actually romantically involved with Jeanne.

Guerilla Games Horizon Zero Dawn broke this trend when it confirmed the sapphic character of its main protagonist in the Burning Shores (DLC) DLC. Although the DLC received the usual review bombing, which is common in many LGBTQ shows, movies, and video games, fans were eagerly awaiting the scene where Aloy & Seyka admitted their feelings to each other. It’s especially important because the game previously let players choose their main character’s gender by choosing to have romances with both women and men.

Bill is a paranoid lone scrounger who hides in a boobytrap-protected town. Joel is bitter towards him, but he offers them a car to get on with their journey. It’s implied that Bill was romantically involved with a man named Frank who disappeared, and his possession of gay pornography further confirms his homosexuality.

It’s not hard to see why this is a beloved game by queer gamers – it’s chock full of hot dudes and traumatized folk, which is basically gay catnip. It’s also a pretty good story – it is full of melodrama, but still enjoyable.
